Interactive Studio - Camera and Audio Best Practice

As WorkCast is browser-based, it is important that any external camera and microphone devices are browser-compatible. Normally any devices suitable for video calling should be suitable and can vary in price range.

If you intend to use a more professional camera setup (eg. a DSLR camera) then you may require an external capture card or additional software to use with our platform. We would recommend checking that it is compatible with your computer and browser.

Individual camera and audio

For 1 person joining with camera and audio we would recommend the following:

  • Using an individual headset to reduce background noise and feedback
  • Your internal or external device microphone can be used, but we recommend ensuring you are in a quiet space with your speakers at a relatively low volume to reduce the possibility of feedback
  • If using an external device, it is recommended to check your settings are correct in the lobby of the My Connections pod prior to joining
  • You can use an internal or external device camera
  • We recommend checking the camera is showing as connected and the correct one selected in the lobby of the My Connections pod

Conference room or group setup

For more than 1 person joining with camera and audio we would recommend the following:

  • We recommend as few people on camera at once to ensure a better viewing experience for your audience
  • Your internal or external device microphone can be used, but we recommend ensuring you are in a quiet space with your speakers at a relatively low volume to reduce the possibility of feedback
  • If more than one person then an external microphone that can be positioned closer to the presenters may give a better sound quality but we recommend checking the sound prior to broadcasting
  • If using an external device, it is recommend to check your settings are correct in the lobby of the My Connections pod prior to joining
  • You can use an internal or external device camera but an external camera may be easier for a group setting
  • We recommend checking the camera is showing as connected and the correct one selected in the lobby of the My Connections pod

Camera tips

  • For the best camera view for your audience we recommend checking your physical background or adding a virtual background
  • We also recommend for best viewing your head and shoulders are visible on the camera image, with the top of your head about 25% below the top of the image

Audio tips

  • We always recommend completing some sound checks prior to broadcast to ensure everyone is sounding as expected
  • If one or more people are in the same room and using headsets then they may need to mute themselves when someone else is talking to avoid any background noise or feedback. We would instead recommend moving to a quiet room.
