This article will go through the Dos and Don'ts of creating slides to the WorkCast Platform
The following steps apply only for slides uploaded to the WorkCast Platform and attached to Classic Slides only events. These slides are hosted on our cloud-based infrastructure where they are streamed as video to your event auditorium.
Presentation slides can be created using any application but can only be uploaded in .pptx file format.
Any file size can be uploaded, but we recommend up to 700mb. Larger file sizes may experience issues uploading.
Do
Consider Accessibility
|
Use Colour Well An attendees computer screen resolution, quality or colour settings may be different from yours. Use clear colours for text and avoid any that could clash with or blend into backgrounds. Avoid small Text / Images Attendees are likely to be watching on laptops or mobile devices so avoid using small or difficult font sizes and images. For example, please do not use a font size lower than 12px.
Be sure any fonts you choose are easy to read. Any custom fonts should be embedded into your presentation or slides will fall back to the nearest font family which may affect your content layouts/positions. (With PowerPoint, this option can be enabled within save settings) |
Use transitions and animations sparingly | Include simple animations in your slides but donβt let them detract from your content or distract viewers. |
Embed any Images/Graphs/ mp4 videos
|
The files for the images/graphs and videoβs should be stored on your local drive and embedded into your presentation using the Insert option from the top menu. If a file is located on a shared drive or copied and pasted into your slides this will show as an external referenced content and these will be identified as security risks and will prevent your content from loading. Video specifics .mp4 file type with playback settings set to autoplay with the volume set to high (If you wish for the video to repeat then be sure to set the video to loop within the settings)
Tips: We recommend you have a holding slide prior to your video so you are able to control the playback of the content by advancing to the video. This could be a snap shot welcoming your viewers. During the playback of your video, you should not transition your slides as this will stop the video and move the presentation to a different slide. You can use the Lock Slides function in the Media Hub to deactivate slide controls for presenters to avoid accidental slide transitions. |
Don't
Ignore security warnings | If your slide deck contains a security warning or similar, then you MUST check each slide and remove any hyperlinks or images that are referenced from other locations. Please ensure your slides do NOT contain a security warning before supplying or uploading your slides within the WorkCast platform. |
Hide slides | Make sure no hidden slides are included within your presentation. These may cause your upload to fail or result in certain slides skipping while presenting. |
Add images from external sources including copying and pasting | Images should not be referenced or added to your presentation from shared network computer drives. This includes any images you add, but also any images used as part of a company template. |
Edit/crop Images/videos once they're embedded | Images/Videos should be edited/cropped prior to embedding them into your slides. If an image/video is edited/cropped after they are embedded this will cause an error (Picture crop information) to appear and prevent the slides from uploading. |
