How to use your mobile phone as a camera in WorkCast

This article is a step-by-step guide on how to use your mobile phone camera as a camera for your WorkCast events

Introduction:

Most modern mobile phones have very high-definition cameras and unless you have a fairly expensive webcam, your phone camera is probably going to be better quality. This page will guide you through how to use your mobile phone camera as a high-definition webcam for your WorkCast events using free software:

Download and Install EpocCam on your mobile device

Start by accessing the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play Store (for Android) on your mobile device and search for the EpocCam app. There is a free version and a paid version, but the free version should be enough for most people. Download the app to your mobile device, and when it has finished downloading, open the app.

If using a Mac, we recommend using the inbuilt capability rather than the Elgato app.

Download and install the Camera Hub app on your laptop or desktop:

On your laptop or desktop, navigate to: https://www.elgato.com/us/en/s/downloads and scroll down until you see the Camera Hub app. Download the Camera Hub app and when it has finished downloading, install it on your laptop or desktop device.

Establish Connection Between Devices

After you have installed and opened EpocCam and CameraHub, to start the process of linking your mobile device to your computer you will need to ensure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Launch the EpocCam app on your mobile device and CameraHub on your computer. Follow the instructions to establish a connection between the two devices:

Connecting your camera to the WorkCast Platform

Now that you have connected your phone camera to your laptop, the final step is to connect the camera to the WorkCast studio so you can use it for your events.

To do this you will first need to log in to the WorkCast studio and open the My Connections pod and click β€˜Join Event’ as usual, then above the camera button you will see a small arrow, this is used to select a different camera:

Scroll down until you see β€˜Elgato Virtual Camera’ and select that option:

Once you have selected the β€˜Elgato Virtual Camera’ you will be able to use your mobile phone camera for all of your WorkCast events going forward, this also works for most other meeting tools and video conferencing software available, so you can use this for your internal meetings too.

The software discussed above was not created by, and is not licenced by WorkCast, we are just demonstrating how it can currently be used in conjunction with the WorkCast Online Events Platform.
